Project: RECLAIM

ProjectRECLAIM (Records for Community, Legacy, Identity, and Memory) is a growing initiative to make Catholic records across British Columbia more accessible, transparent, and meaningful, especially for First Nations, Métis, and descendant communities.

Using the Omeka platform, ProjectRECLAIM brings together diocesan archives and technical experts to digitize and share historical records that have long been difficult to access. These include baptismal, marriage, and burial records, photograph collections, and more.

Every record made available through ProjectRECLAIM respects privacy laws and cultural protocols. This project isn’t just about access, it’s about restoring connections, honoring lived histories, and building a more inclusive archival future.

The project team would like to thank Archbishop Michael Miller, Archbishop Richard W. Smith, Bishop Gary Gordon and Bishop Joseph Nguyen for their faith, support and encouragement for this project. Also, Siyamtelot Shirley Leon, Jeanette Jules, Peter Nobes, Teresa Kellendonk, Linda Filek, Lianne Lawrence and Joe Desjarlais.

This site is part of a pilot project. We are just getting started, and what you see here is only the beginning. Records are being added regularly, and we are committed to respectful handling of all materials, ongoing community consultation, and transparency about what is and isn’t yet included.
